Casters/Tires for your Sheep Tractor
Remember: The bigger the tire, the easier it is to maneuver your tractor and improve its overall performance. We highly recommend opting for tires that are 10 inches in diameter or larger, as this size provides enhanced stability and floatation, making your work significantly more efficient. You can also choose to use more that 4 tires!.
We have mostly been using casters equipped with 10-inch pneumatic tires sourced from Harbor Freight. These casters are not only cheap but also readily available, making them a practical choice for our needs. Their affordability combined with easy accessibility has made them our go-to option for various projects.
Pneumatic tires can indeed be quite a pain for many sheep tractor owners. Issues such as low tire pressure, unexpected flats, and even total tire disintegration can occur, leaving owners frustrated. They seem to deteriorate and wear out much faster than we would like. I believe that a significant contributor to this deterioration is largely due to sun-induced rot, which can destroy the materials and compromise their durability over time.
Now Testing Flat-Free Solid Tires
This year, we are excited to try out some Flat-Free solid tires from Harbor Freight, which offer the potential for enhanced durability and performance. However, to make these tires work effectively with the existing old caster hardware, we needed to incorporate a spacer. This modification will ensure a proper fit and improved functionality. We are eager to see how well these new tires last over time and whether they meet our expectations in various conditions.
